This privacy policy explains how SolaClear (solaclear.co.uk) collects, uses, and protects any information you provide when using this website. We are committed to ensuring your privacy is protected.

Who we are

SolaClear is an independent solar energy tool operated as a personal project based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at hello@solaclear.co.uk.

What information we collect

We collect information in three ways:

Information you give us voluntarily — if you complete the installer quote request form, we collect your name, postcode, email address, and/or phone number.
Information collected automatically — when you visit SolaClear, standard technical information may be collected including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This is used for analytics and advertising purposes.
Energy bill uploads — if you upload a bill, it is sent to Anthropic's API for data extraction only. We do not store the bill image. Extracted data is used solely to pre-fill the calculator.

Quote comparison data

When you use the Solar Quote Checker, you may enter details from your installation quote (total cost, system size, panel brand, battery details etc.). By submitting this data you consent to it being used in the following ways:

To benchmark your quote against our existing database and provide you with an indicative comparison
To improve the accuracy of future benchmarks — your anonymised quote data may be added to our database of UK solar installation prices
No personally identifiable information (your name, address, contact details) is collected as part of the quote comparison tool

Quote data is stored anonymously and used solely to improve the benchmark dataset. It is never sold or shared with third parties including installers.

How we use your information

To pass your installer quote request to relevant MCS-certified solar installers in your area
To improve the calculator and understand how visitors use the site
To serve relevant advertising through Google AdSense

We will never sell your personal data to third parties, and we will never use it for purposes beyond those listed above.

Google AdSense and cookies

SolaClear uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads relevant to you based on your browsing activity. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google's Ads Settings.

Lead form data

When you submit the installer quote request form, your data is processed by Formspree in accordance with their privacy policy. We retain form submission data for no longer than 12 months. You may request deletion at any time by emailing hello@solaclear.co.uk.

Bill upload data

If you choose to upload an energy bill, the image is processed by Anthropic's Claude API to extract relevant data. The image is not stored by SolaClear or Anthropic beyond the processing request. Anthropic's privacy policy can be found at anthropic.com/privacy.
